Holidays in the “secret jewel” of Hohe Tauern National Park
The new Carpe Solem Rauris resort lies right next to the valley station for the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen family ski area and just 5 minutes’ walk from the center of Rauris. The 30 km-long Raurisertal, with its 3000 permanent residents, is the largest National Park community by area in Salzburger Land. Awaiting you here is a holiday far removed from the tourism meccas, surrounded by intact nature and the Austrian mountains - an absolute jewel of the National Park, also aptly nicknamed the “Golden Valley of the Alps”. For centuries, Raurisertal was famous as a center of gold mining. In fact, in its heyday roughly 10% of world gold production originated in this area. To this day, visitors are able to discover fascinating traces of those bygone days: exploring themed paths in Kolm Saigurn, at the Rauris Valley Museum, at 2 different gold-panning sites and even simply taking a stroll through the center of Rauris itself. There, you will pass by the former residences of wealthy mine owners, such as the Voglmeierhaus dating back to the 16th century, today’s village hall (a village map showing historic landmarks is available at the reception desk!).
The people of Rauris are proud of how genuinely authentic they have managed to stay – nurturing their centuries-old traditions. Which gives you a marvelous opportunity to experience the authenticity and pristine nature for yourself: including parades of the Schnabelperchten and Perchten in January, and of the Rauriser Toifin in December, the legendary “Stallion Drive” and the “Glockner Pilgrimage” in June, Harvest Festival in September, along with numerous festivals, big and small, throughout the year…
At Carpe Solem Rauris, even your car can take a bit of a holiday: In winter, the 32 km of beautifully groomed pistes operated by Rauriser Hochalmbahnen are practically right there outside your front door: a family ski area sure to excite families with children as well as beginners and returning skiers. A ski-touring route begins right next to Carpe Solem Rauris and is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy a first taste of this compelling winter sport. In addition, a shuttle for cross-country skiers runs all the way to Alpengasthof Bodenhaus, where you will be greeted by a tracked alpine XC trail.
In summer, you will also be able to step out of your apartment at Carpe Solem Rauris and embark on your first hikes, walks and biking tours. The National Park Valley Taxi will bring you to the Seidlwinkltal, a valley once traveled by pilgrims and merchants – better known today for its traditional mountain huts, hearty snacks, as well as Alpengasthof Weixen, with its fish specialties and fishing ponds. The public bus will also bring you to the entrance of Krumltal, the “Valley of Vultures”, and to Kolm Saigurn valley head with the Hoher Sonnblick, the Rauris Virgin Forest and the Bodenhaus gold-panning site. The Rauriser Hochalmbahnen lifts operate from mid-May until October (also on a daily basis during low season).

Bread baking with Roswitha Huber. Roswitha Huber has made quite a name for herself in Raurisertal, both with her cooking classes and as the author of various books about bread baking. At the Kalchkendlalm in the Wörth section of Rauris, she offers bread-baking classes, explains how to make sourdough, and recounts her “bread journeys” that have taken her around the world. She bakes her own bread in a wood-fired oven right outside the rustic hut – the taste is simply amazing! Mmmmh….
