Summer Holidays on the Turracher Höhe
The Turracher Höhe lies in the Nockberge on a high-alpine pass between the Austrian provinces of Styria and Carinthia at some 1800 m above sea level. The holiday region, which encompasses three picturesque mountain lakes (Turracher See, Schwarzsee and Grünsee), is famous as the home of the biggest uninterrupted area of pine forest, not only in Austria, but actually in all of Europe. The nearest biggish city – Villach, population just over 60,000 – is approximately 60 km or a one-hour drive away. Thanks to the unique natural setting and many different vacation opportunities, the Turracher Höhe is an ideal summer destination for getaways in the Austrian Alps. And the Turrach Lodges your luxurious hideaway so as to enjoy this natural jewel to the full.
Hiking holidays
The Turracher Höhe is a true hiking paradise that offers pleasant hikes as well as challenging mountain tours – for example, to the top of the 2441 m high Eisenhut. The Kornockbahn (ca. 4 km) carries you up to an elevation of roughly 2200 m, from where you will have no problems reaching the summit of the 2334 m high Rinsennock. You will also be able to set out from your wellness chalet to explore the peaceful pine forests nearby. One special highlight is a mountain walk along the idyllic 3 Lakes Path, which, depending on what you are in the mood for, will take you anywhere from 30 minutes up to two hours. This path is also highly recommended for families, not least because of the interactive stations along the way designed to hone your senses for all things alpine. If you are surefooted and have a head for heights, you might like to show off your skills on the newly built “Hoher Steg” via ferrata, a fixed-cable climb approximately 400 m long with a difficulty rating of A to C.
Mountain biking
This holiday region promises biking enjoyment for young and old. For example, the new “Turracher Höhe Trail Area” is designed especially with families in mind. Opportunities include the 5 km long, extraordinarily pristine “Kornock Flowtrail”, which drops over 350 vertical meters, accompanied by marvelous views of the Turracher See and winding all the way down to the valley. In addition, you will discover numerous practice areas as well as technique trails, where rookie bikers assisted by guides can prepare themselves perfectly for the flowtrail. E-bike fans also have many different clearly marked tours to choose from, leading along forestry paths and across alpine pastures.
Family holidays on the Turrach
With its wide selection of recreational activities, the Turracher Höhe provides an ideal setting for a successful family summer holiday in the mountains. The most exciting attractions lie close to the Panoramabahn. Right next to the mountain terminal at 2000 m above sea level is “Nocky’s AlmZeit”, a walking loop with seven exciting play stations. After a break for a bite to eat at the AlmZeit-Hütte, you will be primed for an exciting ride on the legendary 1.6 km long “Nocky Flitzer”, curving its way all the way back down to the Turracher Höhe. At “mythos Edelstein”, children up to age 14 are able to hunt for precious stones and even pan for gold nuggets.
